Oh right... I was on my way to pick up my two boys from school, and Kerrie texted me on my iPhone. Instantly I went to apple.com and then to Twitter.

I was a sophomore in high school when a friend had brought his homework assignment, a printout of a house layout he'd made on a computer. It was awesome, amazing to see that he had created this 16-page, tiled and tapped up computer generated graphic. He told me he created it on his new Macintosh, and I could not wait to see it. I'd only used the Apple IIe at school, which I loved, and my Commodore Vic-20 at home.

I visited his house and couldn't stop looking at and using his Mac. My family and I didn't have the money to buy one, but I couldn't stop reading about the Mac, Apple and Steve Jobs by way of the Macworld magazine, when I had the money to buy them.

A few years later, I got my hands on the Mac at work and took 'ownership' of it. Though it was a number of years before I actually owned one myself - I was always able to find access to one.

And Steve Jobs was always in my mind as the catalyst for great things, through sheer passion, reason and vision. A natural leader in that way. A man who set the bar so extremely high for how to build great products, that actually building the company was the byproduct in that effort. That building shareholder value was the byproduct. That building the most valuable company in the world was the byproduct. Sure those are all things people like, but Steve Jobs always had design and execution of great products as his love. And that's why people love his products.

Thank you Steve Jobs, for everyone you've inspired in the world, for your products and your great company. The world is a better place.
